Living large in Casino Royale.

Rowdy punks Heavy Lungs formed in 2017 when friends Danny Nedelko (vocals) and James Minchall (bass) recruited guitarist Oliver Southgate and drummer George Garratt, working together with immediate chemistry. Their sound is abrasive and very noisy punk with absolutely boundless energy. The group recorded their first EP Abstract Thoughts within months of forming, soon followed by Straight to CD and Measure, both released in 2019, capturing an intense, frantic explosion, and their debut album All Gas No Brakes dropped in September 2023, doing exactly what it said on the tin with relentless pace and passion, and hefty volume front and centre.

Heavy Lungs latest album Caviar was released in April 2025, having been written and recorded in just ten days, bursting through the speakers with ferocious confidence and perfectly capturing their untamed live intensity on record. With dizzying guitar effects and a chaotic rhythm section, it’s half an hour of high-octane mosh-pit mayhem, a modern punk triumph. A brutally direct statement, Caviar has firmly solidified Heavy Lungs’ place at the forefront of modern British punk, proving their early releases were no fluke.

Despite being a four-piece, Heavy Lungs produce a huge wall of noise, creating a roaring backrop that feels much bigger than a single guitar, whilst Danny Nedelko’s totally unique vocal style veers from shouted chants to spoken-word snark to fun melodic passages, all delivered with visceral urgency. Their live shows are exhilarating, with Danny channeling the spirit of every great punk frontman that ever came before him, doing press-ups on the drum casing between songs, leaping into the crowd and prowling through through the audience with wild poses and a manic grin. A Heavy Lungs set will leave you sweat-drenched, wobbly, exhausted, and very, very happy.
